Some of the Essential duties & responsibilities include the following:
  • Manage all production activities and shift personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Conduct daily meetings at the start of each shift to ensure expected performance results and all pertinent production information is disseminated effectively to all shift personnel and in a timely manner; review shift metrics with the Partners to maintain awareness of performance to schedule.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all Salm Partners and USDA sanitation and food safety requirements.
  • Communicate job specifications for appropriate equipment set-up; confirm compliance of set-ups to the Operational Parameters.
  • Assist with performing the production duties as needed during the course of the shift as needs dictate.
  • Maintain production records and report shift results daily.
  • Oversee and assist with the daily sanitation and the Master Sanitation activities on the shift.
  • Address concerns and communicate major issues to the Plant Shift Manager in a timely manner.
  • Prepare performance evaluations and provide performance feedback through the review process.
  • Address and resolve partner issues through effective coaching and the progressive disciplinary process.
  • Identify Partner training needs and seek additional resources as needed to further develop partner skills.
  • Monitor Partner work schedules and attendance; approve time-off requests on a daily basis and report absences in a timely manner to the HR department.
  • Submit a request for temporary personnel weekly for the following week’s staffing needs.
  • Ensure partner compliance with SOP, SSOP, GMP, and SQF requirements.
  • Ensure department personnel follow established Lock-out/Tag-out procedures without fail.
  • Provide backup assistance to the Team Leader and other production personnel as needed.
  • Support the Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives of the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities                                                  
Directly supervises the Team Leader, Rapid Pack Operators, Palletizers, Relief, Vat Washers, and Production Line Workers assigned to the shift.  Must possess highly effective interpersonal communication skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills. 
Education and/or Experience                                                
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is normally required; a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Business, Supervisory Management or related field is preferred.  Prior supervisory or leadership experience and previous work experience in a USDA-regulated ready-to-eat processed food manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.   Must possess basic computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Previous experience with MAS500 or related integrated ERP manufacturing software systems is strongly preferred. Able to speak, read, and write fluently in both Spanish and English is preferred.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the Partner is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. There is a wide variation of temperatures ranging from 35° F to 100° F in the various production work areas.  The work environment is wet and slippery most times.  The noise level in the production work environment is usually loud.  Partners are required to wear frocks, hairnets, slip-resistant footwear and hearing protection at all times on the production floor.  Gloves, goggles, rain suits, and rubber boots may be required at different times in the course of the work being performed.
