Plans, coordinates, and directs the food quality program designed to ensure quality control and quality assurance of production and products. Must be compliant with our established company policies/procedures, Customer Requirements, GMP, SQF, and USDA food standards.  Acts as a Food Safety Compliance Representative for the Organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Mentor, develop, and lead the QA team to successfully meet all business needs and build the next generation of Leaders.
  • Assist with formulating and maintaining quality objectives that are integrated with achieving corporate goals.
  • Ensure Customer Quality Standards Compliance.
  • Assists with the integration and dissemination of Salm quality philosophy to all personnel throughout the organization.
  • Assist with ensuring corporate compliance with all aspects of SQF and customer-specific standards; administer Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs to ensure product is produced to customer specifications.
  • Act as a liaison between Salm Partners and the respective customers’ Food Safety & QA groups.
  • Help develop, maintain, execute and administer Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and related Master Sanitation programs.
  • Along with the Food Safety Manager, develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Review data obtained during all quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
  • Along with the Quality Systems Specialist and Food Safety Manager, develop, maintain, execute and administer HACCP and related food safety programs, including Prerequisite Programs, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Develop, maintain and administer environmental & product sampling.
  • Investigate and respond to internal issues that impact customer shipments, orders or product. 
  • Ensure team members are trained to and complete assigned Internal Audit and Corrective Action processes for the company; ensure prompt responses and changes are implemented as necessary.
  • Communicate the Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis, keeping the leadership team abreast of significant issues or developments to include: GMP violations, HACCP deviations, internal audit trends.
  • Design and implement quality training programs for plant partners on QA and Food Safety procedures.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate current processes and process changes.
  • Review all data obtained during quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with Salm policies and procedures.
  • Direct inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials and products.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards. 
  • Develop ad hoc reports supporting Sales/Marketing, Operations and Engineering and other functional departments.
  • Reviews all Management of Change Documents to ensure compliance to our programs.
  • Backup to the Director of Food Safety and Quality in their absence.
  • FSQA Supervisors will provide backup in case of an absence.
  • Actively support and participate in the safety initiatives of the organization.
  • Support and participate in the Lean Manufacturing initiatives of the company.
  • Support WFSP initiatives as requested
  • Assist in creation of and review of all Operational Parameters for QA/Food Safety related fields to ensure customer and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities                                                 
Directly supervises the Quality Assurance Supervisors across all shifts, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving issues.

Education and/or Experience                                                
A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Quality, Microbiology, Food Science or related field is preferred. Experience and demonstrated proficiency will be considered in lieu of formal degree.  Must possess a minimum of 5 years quality management experience in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.  Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.  Thorough understanding of USDA regulations and standards is required.
Communication Skills                                                
Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.  Must have the ability to read, analyzes, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and the ability to effectively present information to large groups of employees and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Computer Skills                                             
Must have a high level of computer proficiency in a Windows environment, preferably with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.  Previous experience with Quality Assurance systems or related integrated manufacturing software is strongly preferred.  Must have the ability to learn new software as needed.
Mathematical Skills                                                   
Must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability                                                      
Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess strong trouble shooting skills and exhibit strong judgment and decision-making skills.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The partner is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.
